This sculpture of Jesus was inspired by two passages from the Gospels.
Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said,
"It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
His spirit rising from the cross at the moment of his death, Jesus claims victory over death as he is finally free from the flesh that has borne so much agony for the sake of man. He bears no wounds as he rises to join his Father in paradise, his spirit is perfect and a sign to us all that our pains, our imperfections are bound to the flesh.
In three days he knows he will rise again in the glory of the Resurrection.
